MATCH REPORT: Sandwich Town First Team 5–1 Rising Stars

Rob Edwards8 Sep - 12:29

League Opener | A Confident Start to the 2025/26 Season

The new league campaign kicked off in style for Sandwich Town, as the lads delivered a composed and dominant 5–1 victory against Rising Stars in their opening match of the season.

With clear goals set by manager Marc Taylor, this season is all about focus, teamwork, and execution—and the squad certainly hit the ground running.

First Half: Sharp Build-Up and Bright Attacking Play

From the first whistle, Sandwich looked in control—playing with confidence, moving the ball well, and using the width of the pitch to great effect. The wide players found plenty of space and were instrumental in unlocking the Rising Stars defence.

The opening goal came from a textbook team move. Calm play from the back worked the ball up the field, before Jamie Sumner beat several players and delivered a precise cut-back for Louis Corps, who coolly side-footed the ball into the bottom right corner.

Despite dominating, Sandwich missed several clear chances to double their lead—and were punished when a long ball over the top allowed Rising Stars in behind to equalise with a smart finish.

The response, though, was immediate. Sumner again caused chaos in the box, and his low strike deflected in off a defender to restore Sandwich’s lead before the break.

Second Half: Ruthless Control and More Goals

The second half was all Sandwich. The lads played some excellent football—calm in possession, dynamic in the final third, and relentless in their pressing.

Three more goals followed:

Dan Brick scored his first goal for the club—an assured finish that capped off a great move.
Jamie Sumner added his name to the scoresheet, deservedly so after being involved in everything.
And Louis Corps made it a brace with his second of the game, a reward for his hard work up top.
It could have been more—several chances went begging—but the final whistle confirmed a commanding 5–1 win to get the league season underway in perfect fashion.
