Sandwich Town FC vs Rising Stars

The Barrett Cup semi-final had absolutely everything — goals, penalties, red cards and drama from start to finish.

Sandwich Town FC went into the game determined to secure a place in the final, but the match proved to be far more of a rollercoaster than expected.

Rising Stars took an early lead following a mistake at the back, but Sandwich responded almost immediately. A long goal kick found Jamie Sumner, who combined brilliantly with Regan Garrett in a quick one-two before Garrett fired low into the bottom corner to level the game.

However, more sloppy defending allowed Rising Stars to regain the lead for the second time in the match.

Sandwich once again found a response before half time through a well-worked corner routine. Big Josh Smith blocked the goalkeeper as Dylan Munday delivered an excellent ball to the back post, where Tom Shepherd volleyed home to make it 2-2 at the break.

Half Time – 2-2

Some stern words were needed at half time. Throughout the season Sandwich Town have been solid defensively, so changes were made before the second half got underway.

The game continued at a frantic pace from end to end, but Sandwich were caught napping once again as Rising Stars walked through the midfield and defence to score their third goal of the afternoon.

Despite things not fully clicking on the day, Sandwich continued to battle and found another equaliser from a corner. This time, Dylan Munday whipped in an inswinging delivery that flew directly into the net.

Sandwich pushed hard for a winner and eventually got their reward when Dylan Munday drove into the penalty area and was brought down by two Rising Stars defenders, giving the referee no option but to point to the spot.

Up stepped Louis Corps, who calmly slotted the penalty into the bottom right-hand corner.

Rising Stars searched for an equaliser late on, but their task became even harder when one of their players was sent off after receiving a second yellow card.

Sandwich Town win and book their place in the Barrett Cup Final.

There were several standout performances on the day, particularly from Lukas Jones, who made a number of excellent saves to keep Sandwich in the game, and Morgan Crocker, whose energy and work rate at right back never dropped all match.
