Leaving it late...

Leaving it late...

Ben Godden2 Mar - 14:55

Better late than never!

Yesterday’s game had absolutely everything — drama, quality, a few heart-in-mouth moments… and apparently we like leaving it late now! ?

We faced Betteshanger Reserves Women’s in what turned out to be a proper end-to-end battle, finishing 2–2 — and if you were there, you’ll know it was worth every minute.

From the first whistle it was competitive, physical and full of quality from both sides. It was one of those games where you barely get a chance to breathe on the sidelines (I definitely didn’t). Credit to Betteshanger — they pushed us all the way and made it a real contest.

But I have to say, the football the girls played at times was outstanding. Confident on the ball, brave in possession, creating chances and showing real character. It’s exactly what we’ve been working on, and it was brilliant to see it come to life in such a tough game.

Then came the grand finale…

2–1 down, time almost up, probably about 30 seconds left on the clock — and instead of panicking, this group did what they do best: kept going. We found that one last bit of quality and determination to grab a dramatic equaliser right at the death. Cue celebrations, relief, and me finally being able to breathe again!

A draw was probably a fair result in such a back-and-forth game, but the resilience and belief shown by the team says everything about this group. They never give up — and that’s something you can’t coach.

Thank you to everyone who came down to support us — we hope you enjoyed the rollercoaster as much as we did (maybe with slightly lower heart rates!).

We go again!!
