We asked Gary Pettman, the manager of Sandwich Town Football Club Under 15s for his thoughts following the first game in Sandwich Town Colours..

It was great to be back with all the boys yesterday for our first game playing under Sandwich town, there was a lot of first's for the the team Rory and Frazer's first games and a good game had by both, a first game back with the team for Eli who also had a good game back.
Well done boys and welcome to the team!
Another first for our new coach Darren, his first competitive game and only the 2nd time taking the team and had to do it alone well done mate, don't worry it gets easier!
It was a tough game to start the season, to play a good strong and well organised team who finished 2nd in the league last season was always going to be tough.
Having only played 1 pre season game and with some poorly players within the team, we knew we were going into the game as underdogs, but Sandwich Town started strong and made it a good competitive 1st half and we had Pilgrims worried, they knew they were in for a game.

2nd half we lost our shape a little bit and our discipline and started to look like we were struggling with our fitness and stamina and Pilgrims could see that. They started controlling the game by using the width of the pitch, but we still looked dangerous on the counter attack and had a couple of good chances but their keeper did well.

Overall we are very pleased with all the boys!

It's tough going up a diversion but with more game time and more training including fitness and stamina we believe we can have a strong competitive season.
Lots to work on but the team are more than capable to compete with the top teams in the league.

Thank you to Shane for running the Line and a massive thank you for Sandwich town for making us feel welcome and for letting this group of boys continue their footballing journey within your club.

Goal Scorer today was Kai.

MOTM for today's game goes to Leo who worked so hard in midfield breaking up Pilgrims attacks and starting our own, keeping and using the ball well while always looking to play that ball forward.
